Happy Holidays! I can't believe it is only ten days until Christmas (one week until Chanukah). This year has flown by so quickly. I'm a total mark for the Christmas holiday season, and I hope all of our fans have a joyous time with their friends and family.

And what better way to celebrate the holidays than to put the new CD in your stereo and curl up in front of the fireplace with your loved ones. What's that? You don't know where to get the newest addition to the catalog? Well, just check out the Own the Music box at the top of every page. You'll notice that Ugly Songs is now available from some of our preferred on-line vendors. While I write this, CDNow and Buy.com are the only vendors who currently carry the CD. We expect that list to grow considerably over the next few weeks.

In the meantime, you can check out the Multimedia section and listen to full MP3 versions of several of the songs featured on the CD. And in a few days (I promise!), we'll be adding a contest to the web site where you can win copies of both Ugly Songs and September! So get your creative juices flowing, and be the first to submit your entries when the contest formally opens. - Joe

I can't believe I missed the whole David Blaine Frozen In Time event! I guess I've been in sort of a haze the past few daze. Check David's website out at www.davidblaine.com where you can get the latest on this amazing entertainer. Luckily, we have the Internet, so I've been able to surf around for pictures, video clips, news stories, and message boards talking about Mr. Blaine's latest endeavor. Actually, I hear rumors that he's a New Jersey boy. There must be something in the water here in the Garden State.

I also wouldn't want any of you to miss the new compilation CD, Ugly Songs. As a matter of fact, a select few already have the new CD is their possession! Over the next few weeks, we'll all have a chance to buy the CD as the major online music vendors add the release to their catalogs. Our distributor has the discs, and we'll update the Own The Music link as soon as the CD starts to hit the major online music outlets. We're quite excited about how Ugly the album has turned out.

Also, Joe is putting the finishing touches on our Ugly Songs contest page, which we'll soon be unveiling here at baitoven.com. Check out the Ugly Songs cover-art we have posted here at baitoven.com and direct your attention to the angry little fish on the cover. Psst, the fish is the key...

Remember to check out the In The Studio section here at baitoven.com. Joe and I still have a bunch of gear posts to write, (we all know our fellow gear-heads just love those!) and there is a lot going on as Joe and I prepare to move right into our next recording project, the fabled Big Top World.

Finally, thanks to our friends and fans who are out there supporting September and Ugly Songs. Keep checking back with us here at baitoven.com, I promise we won't disappoint! - Patrick

I am in the midst of an Anne Rice reading frenzy! I'm three-fourths through the Vampire Chronicles and I must say that Ms. Rice has really captured the essence of the nightbreed in her novels. She makes us proud! Oops! Have I revealed too much?!

Were I vampire, I guess it would explain the presence of the Egyptian tomb found within the dark dungeon of my castle. We all know that the ancient Egyptian gods were the forebears to the immortal vampires. Check the Multimedia - Images section here at baitoven.com to see the first installment of my journey into the forbidding realm of the dead. Perhaps I shall come upon the Queen of the Damned as my explorations continue. Luckily, Joe will be visiting the castle this week, so I may be able to entreat him to join me in unravelling the mystery of this ancient tomb!

As we have promised, the release of Ugly Songs, the new compilation CD, is at hand. Because this is an online release, the availability of the CD will grow throughout the month of December as the major online music vendors add the release to their websites. As always, you will be able to follow the Own the Music link right here at baitoven.com to purchase the CD. We will also be adding an Ugly Songs page to the Albums section of baitoven.com and a special page regarding this new album contest that Joe and I keep hinting about.

Should I reveal the reward that awaits the winner of this contest? I will soon, so keep checking back with us here at baitoven.com as we announce the details.

We've been busy, busy, busy... First September, now Ugly Songs, and soon we shall unveil our Big Top World! - Patrick

November 7, 2000
As we speak, millions of little cogs and sprockets are spinning moving the conveyor belt along, while stampers are stamping and heat lamps are casting their radiant orange glow. Workers in gloves and hairnets are handling the jewel-cases and shrink-warp is being shrunk 'round them. The second installment in the newly inaugurated CD catalog, Ugly Songs, is now being crafted at the pressing plant. Soon it will join our first CD September, and will be available to you from the major online music vendor of your choice! The tentative release date for Ugly Songs is November 21st. The online release of the album will occur throughout the month of December as the online music vendors add the CD to their catalogs.

With both September and Ugly Songs available from so many vendors, our friends and fans will have the ability to shop for the release of their choice the same way they shop for a car, or perhaps a better metaphor would be a loaf of bread. Besides the online vendors featured in the Own the Music link on baitoven.com, there are many other vendors on the Internet that carry the CD catalog. A little searching may save our friends and fans some money when they are buying their CD, since the store down the road may have a bigger sale on bread this week.

When searching for online, it is best to type your search text as "bait oven", dropping the hyphen that is part of the logo, (don't use the quotes either.) You will quickly find many links back to here, baitoven.com, some fishing and baking related links, (Blueberry Boy Bait being my favorite!) but you will also find, (depending on the search engine you use,) links to many lesser known online music vendors such as Dr. Wax and CDConnection, who carry CDs. You may also find us at Listen.com, where our cruel yet kind Lycos music review originated from. I have noticed that while the Ultimate Band List , which is part of the Artist Direct network, lists our webpage links and official biography under "bait-oven," the link to purchase our CD from the Artist Direct vendor is under "bait oven," (again dropping the hyphen!) I guess we were not thinking correctly all of those years ago when we named the band with such a confusing-to-Internet-search-engines band name. Wait a minute, the Internet didn't even exist then, (at least not as we know it now!) Didn't Nostradamus warn us about all of this leading to confusion?

Remember to check out the cover for Ugly Songs that we've posted here at baitoven.com and keep an eye on that little fish bugger. Joe mentioned that we'll be unveiling a contest shortly that will allow you, our friends and fans, to add your name to the annals of history. We'll be announcing the details shortly.

Let me depart by saying, what is in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet... (I'm going off the top of my head here, is that The Merchant of Venice?) - Patrick

October 13, 2000
The release of latest CD, Ugly Songs, is drawing ever closer. As Patrick had mentioned, the artwork for the CD is finished, and the project is ready for pressing. To whet your appetites, we've posted a scan of the cover art. Rumor has it that there will be a contest revolving around the cover that will give you, the fans, an opportunity to leave your mark in history!

I'd also like to take a moment to welcome our international friends who have visited our humble site recently. We've been receiving visitors from Japan, England, Germany, Slovakia, Antarctica, South Africa... the list goes on. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would be able to reach out to such a large and diverse audience. Thanks for your support, and keep coming back; there always seems to be something going on here... - Joe

Would it be egotistical if I were to say that is my favorite band? Actually, Placebo is my favorite band. I never count since that is like voting for yourself in the Student Council election. Just make sure the curtain is closed even though everyone knows who you're voting for. Placebo's new album is out, and it is awesome of course! I stopped by their official website and listened to an interview they gave to Virgin Radio about the new album. I thought the interview was weird because there were many parallels to the world of Placebo and some of the things going on here in the world of . I'm a certified Brian Molko admirer, which is strange for me since I'm a little older than he, so I may be a little jealous of him as well. (Not much older really... really!) Pesky kids! We're both very opinionated people. Anyway, it appears that three is a mystical number for Placebo, as it is for . Placebo are a three member band. Black Market Music, the new album, is their third album. has never had more than three members in any incarnation. Big Top World, when released, will be our third CD, (with September and the forthcoming Ugly Songs compilation being our official first and second.) Both albums have three-word titles- Black Market Music and Big Top World. Going farther, September and Ugly Songs both have three-syllables! Were Joe and I to welcome a new member into the band, it would be the third three person lineup, (with Robert Medvedz being in the first, and Rebekah joining us for the second.) The math is getting a little fuzzy here! Actually, both and Placebo cast our admiring eyes upon the god David Bowie with equal verve, so I guess we all are fans of certain bigger fishes in this pond. I think only Placebo can evoke such emotion from my dark heart. They make Patrick the musician feel like Patrick the music fan again. Enough gushing...

Meanwhile, the Ugliness draws nearer. I have in my possession, a mock-up of the Ugly Songs CD. I've laser printed crude renderings of the most excellent artwork. I have a master CD copy in my homemade jewel box. I'm playing the album right now as I write this post. Is the goo hot yet? - Patrick

I just caught Culture Club in concert at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ. Since the pendulum of my musical tastes swings from Marilyn Manson on the one side to Boy George on the other, passing through Willie Nelson along the way, I was quite excited about seeing Culture Club in such a small venue. Mickey Craig, the bassist, is probably one of the most overlooked bass players in popular music. He is simply a great player. I wonder what type of session work he’s done? has an open slot for a touring bass player… As for Boy George, he is definitely a star, and whether he is singing at Wembley Arena or the Count Basie, the audience still gets a larger than life performance. My favorite thing about Boy George is his house in London. I saw it on the VH-1 special and it’s like living in a castle. Right up my alley! He’s got taste!

The great thing about the show, and one of the cool things I wanted to mention here at baitoven.com about Culture Club, is that after they reunited, they did a new record that was released in the UK. They just finished a big tour of the UK and Far East supporting it, and still came here to North America, even though their label didn’t release the album in the US. Culture Club, and bands like Duran Duran, (who have a new record out on Hollywood Records,) are still going strong after all of these years, even though they don’t have the major label support they used to have. By using the Internet as a tool to build their audience base, they are making great new music and are still winning over new fans. The online music community has the power in their hands to revolutionize the music industry. It is the same power that has allowed Joe and I to bring and our music to more people than was ever possible for an independent band 10 years ago. Let’s keep the revolution going and support new music on the Internet. Let’s also support those great bands from the past, like Culture Club and Duran Duran, who are out on the web keeping their music and legacies alive. - Patrick

This fall is shaping up to be a huge season for new album releases by some of the biggest artists in the industry. I'm really looking forward to the new U2 album, which is coming out at the end of October. We'll be riding the wave along with everyone else with the new Ugly Songs compilation CD. Joe just sent over a proof of the cover art, which looks awesome and includes a great picture of us back when we were just wee lads making a noisy ruckus in the streets of Sayreville, New Jersey!

Which leads me into our latest ugly tidbit of insider info concerning the new Ugly Songs CD. Contrary to the reports circulating on the Internet, does not hail from Metuchen, New Jersey. Two-thirds of the original line-up, and both halves of the current line-up, (that's Joe, and me) grew up in Sayreville, New Jersey. Yes, the same Sayreville that is the hometown of Jon Bon Jovi, or Bongiovi to the locals. And no, neither one of us know Jon personally, we're a little too young to have hung around in his scene when he was starting out, although everyone in Sayreville knows someone who knows Jon or the family. Metuchen comes into the picture because Joe, Bob, and I went to high school there, at St. Joseph's. But, wait a minute, it seems that Jon Bon Jovi went to St. Joe's too. I seem to remember my friend having his old French textbook! I think Jon only went to St. Joe's his freshman year. What's with this Bon Jovi thing?! (By the way, their new single is great.) Anyway, that's it for this installment, just a little background story to put the 11 Ugly classics into perspective when you are spinning the new Ugly Songs CD. It's coming soon! - Patrick

Our friends at API Records have just launched their new web site, which contains biographical and release information on their diverse roster of recording artists. You can direct order all of the releases from the API catalog by contacting the label through the site. I've done quite a bit of studio work with Tim Keyes over the past few years, and I've always enjoyed the opportunity I've had at API Records to write and work on all different kinds of music. Studio work really forces musicians to keep their chops up, as you could be called upon to play almost any style of music at any time. The opportunities I've had at API to write songs for other artists have been great experiences as well. Having to create a lyric for another artist and to capture their point of view has really helped me to hone my skills for when I am writing songs for . It's a good discipline. I seem to recall that a Mr. Lou Reed started his music career out under similar circumstances. He wrote "Tiger in My Tank," for Pickwick Records during the day and "Herion" for the Velvet Underground at night... Hmmm... Interesting... "I don't know where I'm going..."

Thanks to Tim for the cross-link to baitoven.com and the listing of the September CD on the Pop releases page. Just so you know, is not under contract with API Records in any way. All releases are currently handled through our own CastleGar Productions imprint, so it's a nice gesture from API to include us on their site. Thanks!

And remember, things are going to get ugly pretty soon! - Patrick

And what is Lycos Music's opinion of bait-oven's single "America Can't Last" from our CD September?

Processed guitars lay down tired, standardized Hard Rock melodies. Seizing the opportunity to fill the passion void left by vacant riffs, the vocalist packs in enough affectation to knock Matchbox 20's Rob Thomas into next week.

That just made my day!

Keep an eye out for other sightings on the web and e-mail us to let us know what you've found! Good, bad, or ugly, send it in! (I particularly like the ugly stuff!) - Patrick

Check out the In The Studio section of baitoven.com for some details on the recent mastering session for the new Ugly Songs CD. The actual release date is still top secret information, but I can say it is looming quite close on the horizon. As for some more details about the new compilation CD, it contains 11 classics taken from all four of the original independently released albums. The final track listing for the new Ugly Songs compilation CD is:

Twenty-Fifth
Cold
Bloodbath
Thousand Languages
Saints & Sinners
Change
Political Life
Reign on Me
Voice of a Generation
The Ugly Song
74 Words

You can find the lyrics for all of these tracks in The Albums section of baitoven.com, as well as information on which of the original four albums the songs were released on. - Patrick

For all of our friends in the United States, I'm sure we've all been following the coverage of our upcoming Presidential election, I know I have. If you can surf the web, you can find almost anything you need to know about the candidates, their political positions on the issues we are all concerned with, and information on how you can register to vote. Participate in the process and make your voice heard through the vote you cast this November.

Why would a rock and roller like me care about who is in office? Aren't they all crooks anyway? Isn't every election the same old thing every time, just choosing the lesser of the evils? Maybe and maybe not. What I care about is exercising my right to vote so that I am doing everything I can to protect my freedom, the freedom of thought and expression upon which this country was built. Just like you need to stand up for your right to speak your mind and defend your beliefs, you also need to stand up for your right to rock and defeat censorship on the Internet. It's not as simple as thinking that the liberals are pro-free speech, (Political Correctness anyone?) or that the conservatives are pawns of the religious right. There's a middle ground in there. I think most of we Americans are somewhere in that middle ground where common sense is our guide.

bait-oven to me represents my ultimate freedom of expression. To me, and our friends and fans, it is about living your life and experiencing everything you can without hurting anyone else in the process. Your life is your one and only chance at it and it's up to you to either make it or break it.

Joe and I know we have visitors here from all over the world. Some of our friends live in countries that don't have the same individual freedoms and quality of life that we as Americans enjoy. To me, we all have an obligation to educate ourselves and participate in the American political process so that we can protect our freedom and defend our rights. We don't have to all agree, but if each of us don't stand up for our beliefs, who will? - Patrick

August 14, 2000
As we announced earlier this month, we are presently putting the finishing touches on a new compilation CD. This CD contains digital remixes taken from all four of the original independently released bait-oven albums. Over the next few weeks, as we approach the release of this new CD, Joe and I will be sharing small bits of information which will shed more light on the sinister nature of this new disc! The new compilation will have it all, from our punk beginnings to the dark sounds of the original 1994 version of September. Remember to check out The Albums section of baitoven.com, so you can follow along when we reveal the final track listing. For now, we'll start the journey by giving this new album a name: Ugly Songs. Has a nice ring to it...

News Flash! Recent excavations in the dungeon of my castle have turned up a hitherto undiscovered Egyptian tomb! Now I can thumb through my volumes of forgotten lore under the watchful eyes of Ra and the other deities who guide the dead from this lost world. While most would rush forth into this discovery with picks and shovels in hand, I've instead chosen to bring my guitar. Photographic evidence will be produced shortly to provide substance to the wild rumors and speculation, and baitoven.com will be the first have them! I promise! - Patrick

August 7, 2000
Were I to take you into the dungeon of my castle, you would see that besides being really into rock 'n' roll and all of its associated virtues and vices, (mostly the vices,) I am also really into books. There's an entire Barnes & Noble down there. I guess you can tell from baitoven.com that I like to write more than songs, since I just love to post here so much. I love reading and writing. When I'm not committing evil acts of depravity that I'm sure have me marked for excommunication, (I'm upset that it hasn't happened yet,) I am often found sitting in the big chair in my living room with my nose buried in a book. I read it all, from Shakespeare to Manson. From Plath to Lydon. High art to low art. I also like to read books that challenge my own opinions or are from authors I don't necessarily identify or agree with. You shouldn't be afraid to have your opinions challenged.

My latest acquisition is a book by the Motor-City Madman, Ted Nugent. It's called God, Guns, and Rock 'n' Roll, and I'm about halfway through it. I knew when I bought this book that I would be challenged by what I read, since I'm not really comfortable with the idea of everyone running around with guns and I don't think I could shoot an arrow through a deer, even though I'll eat a hamburger made from a cow they've done who knows what to. Ted does quite a convincing job pointing out the hypocrisies in our society and he stands tall for what he believes in. Whether you are a hunter, or an animal rights activist, a pro-gun citizen or an anti-gun citizen, I think Ted's book is worth a read. Keep an open mind and then take what you've read and store in your brain so that your opinions on these issues can be fully informed.

You'll find some of that open-mindedness here at baitoven.com. I'll speak for myself on this one, but take for example my posts on Stryper. Go to the Albums section of baitoven.com and check out the lyrics to a song I wrote called "Saints & Sinners." I think that when you're done, you'll have a pretty good idea of what my thoughts on Christianity are. Even though I hold those opinions, I've done a lot here at baitoven.com to promote the recent activities of my friends in Stryper, who were at one time, the biggest cross-over Christian band in the world. I'll go to bat for people who take risks for what they believe in and don't hurt anyone else in the process, even if I don't agree with those beliefs.

Getting back to Ted Nugent, I just saw him last month on the Kiss Farewell Tour. I had never seen the Nuge before and honestly, am only familiar with "Cat Scratch Fever," but I was impressed nonetheless. Let me just say that the running commentary that Ted delivered from the stage was toxic in its controversy. For a moment, I wondered if Ted's message of individual freedom was lost in the mob-rule mentality of the 10,000 fans at the arena, but then again, it was only a rock concert. Perhaps his book is a better forum to express his beliefs. Give it a read and then form your own opinion.

If you end up OD'ing on Nugent bagging animals in the wild, then check out the Crocodile Hunter, who travels the world conserving some of the same creatures the Nuge is looking to eat! By craggy! - Patrick

July 26, 2000
Our friend Tim Gaines, bassist extraordinaire formerly of Stryper and Sin Dizzy, has launched his brand new official website at 4ElectricBass.com. Tim is now devoting his many talents to the Irene Kelly Band, currently promoting Irene's newly released CD If You Were Here . Produced by Tim and released through Tim Gaines Music, the CD features Tim on bass, and marks the TGM debut of the immensely talented Irene Kelly. I was lucky enough to catch Irene and Tim's performance as part of the Stryper Expo this past May, and I was simply amazed by Irene's great voice, Tim's innovative playing, and their really well-crafted songs! Their sound is new and highly original, and for me, Tim and Irene's set was one of the high points of my entire Expo experience. Be sure to visit Tim's site, 4ElectricBass.com and Irene's site, irenekelly.com, and pick up her CD! - Patrick

July 25, 2000
Keep an eye on the In the Studio section, as Joe and I report our progress while we work on the upcoming album, Big Top World. We've pushed the release date back a bit because of the scope of this undertaking, and we can assure you that we're sparing no expense to make Big Top World the biggest and best sounding album ever. We'll being moving our mobile digital studio to far-flung points around North America in order to get this album done properly. Joe and I are quite excited about the songs, and for all of our fellow gear-heads, we'll also post In the Studio, info on the gear we're using to create our Big Top World! When we're finished, expect the full Monty: radio promotion, media and live performances, and an intense internet promotion campaign! It's fun already and it can only get better.

In the meantime, September continues to infiltrate the music scene around the world. From France, to Canada, to Japan, the UK and the United States, slowly but surely, the momentum is building and the CD is spinning! A special thanks to everyone for their support and for our friends in Quebec and France, I'm practicing my French! I promise!

Because of the success of September, which Joe and I specially prepared in 1999 to mark our decision to resume our musical work together as , we are currently putting the finishing touches on a new compilation CD. We'll have a release date for it in the near future. This CD will feature digital remixes from the catalog of independent recordings, (check out The Albums section of baitoven.com for more details.) I view this new compilation as a sort of Part II to the September release, as both CD's together will give the listeners a pretty complete picture of the best of our work from the late 80's and early 90's. The music runs the gamut of styles, from the heavy punk sound of Cold, to the dark acoustic sound from the original 1994 version of September. A good portion of the music features the original lineup, with Robert Medvedz on vocals, Joe on drums, and me on guitars and bass, and the rest of the music features the band as you know us today, with Joe and I handling all of the duties. It's quite an interesting piece of work, and upon its release, the CD will be available on-line through all of the same vendors that carry September. We'll be revealing the title of this new compilation shortly! - Patrick

July 11, 2000
I know, I keep using the news page to promote my latest favorite music links... (Placebo!!!) Anyway, I've been wanting to add this one for awhile. Check out Union's official website. I'll leave the details of the band for you to discover when you're there. They're only one degree of seperation from the almighty KISS, (whose media juggernaut needs no help from our humble baitoven.com,) and Motley Crue, so expect them to rock!

I had tickets to see Union at a secret time in an undisclosed location, but the show was cancelled so I never got a chance to hustle copies of September to John Corabi and Bruce Kulick. Maybe someday they'll get their own copies of the CD. They could try Amazon.com for instance. For some strange reason, September keeps finding its way into the hands of the rich and famous, the rich and infamous, and the rich and misunderstood and I swear I have nothing to do with it. - Patrick

June 27, 2000
Check out the In the Studio section for some details on the work we're doing on the back catalogue from our 4-track independent cassette albums. There's quite a few gems among all of that work that will begin to see the light of day again, the Internet-only release of the Cold EP being an apt example.

Joe and I just went through a round of birthdays that have resulted in some new gear for the upcoming album. Gift-giving among musicians can be elaborate affairs! Joe's present to me was perfect: my singing greatly benefits from good microphones, especially in the studio! Thanks Joe! If I'm not mistaken, Robert Medvedz has also recently celebrated a birthday, (is it true that all three founders are Gemini's? I think Bob is more likely a Taurus!) Happy Birthday Bob!

Oh yeah... Don't forget, (if you haven't done so already,) to check out our CD September, (just follow the Own the Music link to the major online music vendor of your choice!) In a new promotion arranged through our online distributor, our friends and fans in Japan can now download an extremely high-quality version of our single "America Can't Last" at Nifty.com. - Patrick

June 21, 2000
We're forever indebted to our friend Brian Lepine, who made us some great Cold "bootleg" CD's from the MP3's that we have posted here at baitoven.com. Cold has always been a favorite album of mine and I was thrilled when Brian took the time to burn the CD's for me and Joe. Ask and ye shall receive. Thank you very much!

Check out the Velvet Underground Web Page. I personally think that the site is the best Velvet Underground resource on the web today. I'm a big fan of the music of the Velvet Underground, John Cale, Lou Reed, and from the visual arts side, the work of Andy Warhol. The site is worth a visit. - Patrick

June 2, 2000
The Stryper Expo is now history! From among the tons of artists, from all styles of music, that have influenced Joe and me over the years, Stryper stands out as one of our favorites and one of the best. Thanks to Michael Sweet for a great day and thanks to all of the guys from Stryper: Michael, Robert Sweet, Oz Fox, and Tim Gaines, for their historic jam session that was a dream come true for all of the Stryper fans in attendance.

Be sure to head on over to Michael Sweet's official website. Michael has a special limited edition version of the multi-platinum Stryper album To Hell With The Devil, that he's offering exclusively at his website that is a must-have for any Stryper fan. - Patrick

May 19, 2000
We hope you're enjoying the Internet-only release of the Cold EP. Just in case you're wondering, the album features the original lineup, with Joe on drums, me on guitars, and Robert Medvedz on lead vocals!

The first release of Cold, during the winter of 1990, contained cover-art designed by Joe and Robert and was our first "official" album as a band. The cover-art for the second release of the Cold EP, featured on baitoven.com, was designed by Joe and was intended for a proposed vinyl release of the album. We all remember vinyl, don't we? - Patrick

May 16, 2000
Well, it took a little longer than expected, but the entire Cold EP has been remastered and is available exclusively as a free download on baitoven.com. Just go to the Multimedia section, or to the Cold page, and download the songs you want to hear. You can't beat the price!

We should have RealAudio versions of these songs available soon on our IUMA page, so if you don't have an MP3 player, keep checking the IUMA site for the RealAudio release of the album. - Joe

April 25, 2000
As you may already know, former member Rebekah Zelman-Doody will be joining Joe and I in the studio as we work on the new album, Big Top World. We are really excited about Rebekah appearing on the new album with us, so through the magic of email, I sent Rebekah a couple of probing questions to help us all catch up and get the answers the millions of fans have been waiting for!

What were the last 3 CD’s you’ve bought?
1. 70's dance mix
2. 70's dance mix
3. Sarah McLachlin: Mirror Ball

What’s the last book you’ve read?
Message in a Bottle, by Nicholas Sparks

Name three things you'd bring with you to a deserted island:
1. A stereo
2. Plenty of CD's
3. My guitar

What is your favorite type of food?
That's a cruel question. There are too many to list.

How about your favorite color?
What ever color the sky happens to be at sunset.

There we have it! I’m sure I’m up for a Pulitzer for my in-depth reporting! Keep an eye on the In the Studio section of baitoven.com for the latest info as we progress with our studio projects and the Big Top World album. I can say that the new album is shaping up to be our biggest undertaking yet, and expect it to yield some nice surprises along the way. - Patrick

April 10, 2000
is now featured on the IUMA website. For those of you who want RealAudio versions of the MP3 files found on baitoven.com, I suggest going to this site. Any songs we post there will be available in both RealAudio and MP3 file formats.

I know, you're wondering why we don't offer RealAudio versions here, too. IUMA offers RealAudio as a standard format for their content. We didn't provide them with RealAudio versions of our files. Best I can tell, they stream the MP3 as RealAudio content on the fly. Something we can't do just yet. Let us know if you prefer RealAudio over MP3, and we may provide both on this site. Personally I prefer MP3 due to the better audio quality.

And don't forget about the internet-only release of Cold. Should be coming soon... - Joe

As people familiar with the song catalog are aware of, Joe and I are fans of all kinds of musical styles. We like the freedom of writing songs without restricting ourselves to any one genre.

As for my CD collection, it is not uncommon for me to be listening to Marilyn Manson one day, Sting the next, and Anonymous 4 the day after. I'm also really into finding new and different music, from artists outside of the mainstream (Placebo anyone?) The Internet is a great tool for finding new music, baitoven.com being a fine example (plug!)

For fans of the music of John Waite, (remember Missing You?) check out his official website at www.johnwaite.com. If you follow the link to the Fans section, then click on Experiences, AND FINALLY click on Patrick's Experience, you'll find a little piece contributed by ME about a Bad English concert I saw while in college at Montclair State. Not only was John Waite in top form at that show, but Neil Schon was simply great. While you're over at the "on-line music vendor of your choice" buying the CD September, be sure to check out the John Waite catalog. I recommend When You Were Mine.

P.S.- I can't stand the wait any longer, is David Lee Roth back with Van Halen or not?!?!?!? - Patrick

We've got another MP3 available in the Multimedia section. Modern American Love Song , one of the first songs Patrick and I recorded for the original release of September some years back, can be downloaded in two different sampling formats.

Also, we plan to release the Cold E.P. on the website within the next month or so, so keep checking back for more music!  - Joe

News Flash! Current listening: Bloodflowers - The Cure, Without You I’m Nothing - Placebo, October Rust - Type O Negative, Ultra - Depeche Mode, September, hours… - David Bowie, Coming Up Close, A Retrospective - ‘Til Tuesday. Check them out, especially Placebo. (They’re good CDs for bus rides…)

In my alternate life outside of , I work in the fashion industry for a giant company out of Paris represented by four CAPITAL letters. (No, not DKNY!) A frequent journeyman in my capacity, this week saw one of my more “unique” travel experiences. I boarded a bus with some selected co-workers and rode down the Garden State Parkway to Atlantic City, NJ for a business meeting, (which was very productive I must say). Atlantic City is the embodiment of the Big Top World. The flashing lights, the barrage of sounds, and the throngs of people of every imaginable persuasion, all concentrated in a single place and time. Underneath it all, was absolute emptiness. In the mecca of material excess, none of it mattered in the face of the desperate search for the bigger high. Maybe I’m too dramatic!

Keep memorizing the old lyrics, there’ll be a quiz. Spread the word about September. And Joe and I promise to make Big Top World the most excessive album we’ve ever done… - Patrick

Hello everyone! It’s rumored that September is available all over the Internet (I’d check the Own the Music link), or it can be bought from me in dark alleys out of my black bag, (it’s a Liz Claiborne.) I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about where all of these songs “come from.” For those of you who have asked, or would like to ask, or perhaps thought about asking, or find yourself asking why anyone would ask in the first place, let me give you a quick thought on our dark little album. I’ve always thought of the songs on September as capturing times when love and despair are different sides of the same emotion. Sometimes the love is so deep that we experience despair in its inadequacy. Sometimes the despair is so profound that we confuse it with love. It’s a cliché all around and we’ve all lived through it at one time or another. That’s it in a nutshell. Again, thanks to everyone out there who are supporting and enjoying the record, thank you thank you thank you…

Not all is so gloomy in  as I had a huge smile on my face remixing a big batch of classic tunes in the studio this past week. Check the albums section of baitoven.com and memorize all of the lyrics on those “Out of Print” albums as the presses will roll again in the future. There’ll be more details to come…

And then there’s Big Top World! - Patrick

With September still fresh from the pressing plant, we’ve already begun working on a new album, slated for a summer 2000 release. (Summer is the best touring season!) Tentatively titled Big Top World, you can follow our progress through the updates in the In The Studio section of baitoven.com. Joe and I will have a special guest on the new record: former member Rebekah Zelman-Doody will be joining us in the studio to contribute vocals to the title track.

In other news, both Joe and I are huge heavy metal fans, and one of our favorite bands, Stryper, is being honored this May with the first ever Stryper Expo. Check out the baitoven.com links section to visit Michael Sweet’s Official Website for details. Michael was the singer and main songwriter in Stryper and has had a very successful solo career since leaving the band in the early 90’s. As of now, I’m planning on attending the Expo and will be assisting Michael at his booth. There’ll be plenty of Yellow and Black memorabilia, plenty of new music to check out by the former members of Stryper, and much more. So, if you’re a Stryper fan AND a bait oven fan, be sure to stop by and say hi! - Patrick
